Who runs the Costa Rican Embassy?

Eliana Villalobos Cardenas heads the embassy as ambassador; the Belgian list gives 9 May 2023 as the date of the presentation of credentials. This is the bilateral embassy to the Kingdom of Belgium; missions to the European Union or NATO in Brussels are separate offices.

Closing days

The embassy is closed on Belgian public holidays; Costa Rican celebrations on 15 September (national day) usually mean a closure too. Many offices work reduced hours in summer – call ahead in July and August.

Emergency assistance

In an emergency, Costa Rican citizens should call the embassy on +32 2 640 59 69. Consular staff can replace lost travel documents and inform family members; they do not provide legal representation or money. The Belgian emergency number is 112 (police: 101).
