What you will find on every page
Each mission page follows the same structure, so you can find what you need in seconds:
- Contact details – street address, telephone, e-mail, official website and head of mission
- Opening hours with live status – “open now” or “closed”, taking public holidays of both countries into account
- Who is responsible for me? – choose your region and see which consulate covers it
- Documents checklist – what to bring for passports, visas and civil-status matters, printable
- Visa and entry rules – the basics for citizens of the sending and the host country, with links to the official source
- Visitor experiences – waiting times and tips from people who were there, published after review
- Report an error – every page has a form; reports are checked against the official source
- Map and public transport – location on Google Maps and how to get there
Sources are named on every page: the lists of foreign representations published by each host country’s ministry of foreign affairs, and the websites of the missions themselves. How we work
Embassy, consulate general, consulate or honorary consulate?
The names tell you what a mission can do for you.
- Embassy
- The main diplomatic representation of a country in another state, almost always in the capital. It handles political and economic relations and usually has a consular section for passports, visas and help for its own citizens.
- Consulate general and consulate
- Career posts outside the capital, run by professional consular officers. They provide the full range of consular services for a defined district – for example a consulate general in Munich may cover Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
- Honorary consulate
- Run by a local businessperson or notable appointed by the sending country, usually part-time and often from a company office. Honorary consuls give information, certify some documents and help in emergencies, but normally cannot issue passports or visas – those go to the nearest career post, which we name on each honorary consulate’s page.
- High commission and apostolic nunciature
- A high commission is simply the embassy of one Commonwealth country in another. An apostolic nunciature is the embassy of the Holy See. Permanent missions represent countries at international organisations such as the UN in Geneva or Vienna.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find the embassy or consulate responsible for me?
Open the list for the country you are in, choose your own country and then the mission nearest to you. On consulate pages the “Who is responsible for me?” tool shows which post covers your region; honorary consulate pages name the career post that handles passports and visas.
Are the opening hours up to date?
Opening hours are taken from the official website of each mission and shown with a live “open now / closed” status that includes public holidays. Missions change their hours without notice, so always confirm before you travel – especially around holidays.
Can I apply for a visa or passport on this website?
No. embassies-consulates.com is an independent directory and is not affiliated with any government. We cannot process applications or book appointments. Use the telephone number, e-mail address or official website shown on the mission’s page.
Where does the information come from?
From the lists of foreign representations published by the foreign ministries of the host countries – for example the German Federal Foreign Office or the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs – and from the websites of the missions. Every page names its sources and the date of the last check.
I found an error. How do I report it?
Use the form “Found an error on this page?” at the bottom of the page concerned, or write to us through the contact page. Reports are checked against the official source and corrected promptly.
