About the Georgian Embassy in Berlin
The Georgian Embassy in Berlin is the official diplomatic representation of Georgia in Germany. It represents Georgian interests and supports political, economic, cultural and institutional relations between Georgia and Germany.
Germany was the first country of the European Community to recognise Georgia after the restoration of its independence in 1991. Diplomatic relations were established in 1992, and Germany opened an embassy in Georgia during the same year.
Bilateral cooperation includes trade, development, infrastructure, sustainable urban mobility and institutional reform. Germany also supports Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and participates in the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia.
In addition to its diplomatic activities, the embassy provides consular services for Georgian citizens and handles passports, identity documents, legalisations, notarial matters and other official procedures.
Visa Information
Georgian citizens holding a biometric passport can generally travel to Germany and the Schengen Area without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
The visa exemption does not normally permit employment and does not replace the appropriate German visa or residence permit for longer stays, work, study, family reunification or other long-term purposes.
German citizens currently do not need a visa for Georgia for stays of up to 360 days. A valid German passport can be used for entry, and German citizens may also enter with a valid national identity card under the applicable conditions.
Longer-term residence for employment, study, training or family reunification may require a Georgian residence permit. Travellers should also note that Georgia has required foreign visitors to carry valid health insurance since 1 January 2026.
