About the Honduran Embassy in Berlin

The Honduran Embassy in Berlin is the official diplomatic representation of the Republic of Honduras in Germany. It represents Honduran interests and promotes political, economic, development and cultural relations between Honduras and Germany.

Germany and Honduras have maintained diplomatic relations since 1960 and traditionally enjoy friendly bilateral ties. Germany is an important European partner for Honduras in areas such as trade, development cooperation, environmental protection and regional integration.

Economic links include Honduran exports such as coffee and textiles, while German companies supply machinery, electrical equipment, vehicles and industrial products. Cooperation also focuses on climate adaptation, renewable energy, migration, education and violence prevention.

In addition to its diplomatic work, the embassy operates a consular section that provides consular services for Honduran citizens throughout Germany and handles passports, civil registration, authorisations, visas and other official procedures.

Visa Information

Honduran citizens do not generally need a visa for Germany for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. The visa exemption does not normally permit employment.

Honduras is also one of the countries whose citizens may, under certain conditions, enter Germany without a national visa in advance for longer stays if they do not intend to take up employment. The required residence permit must then be obtained from the responsible German immigration authority.

German citizens currently do not need a visa to enter Honduras for stays of up to 90 days. The actual period granted is recorded by the Honduran immigration authorities at entry.

Honduras forms part of the CA-4 area together with Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. The permitted 90-day period can therefore apply to the traveller's combined stay within the CA-4 countries rather than separately to each country.

Consular Services

The consular section of the Honduran Embassy in Berlin provides a broad range of administrative and consular services for Honduran citizens living or staying in Germany.

  • Honduran passport applications and renewals
  • Emergency travel documents and safe-conduct documents
  • Registration of births and marriages
  • Powers of attorney and consular authorisations
  • Travel authorisations for minors
  • Visa applications where a Honduran visa is required
  • Consular assistance for Honduran citizens
  • Assistance in emergency and repatriation-related situations

The embassy publishes separate requirements for passports, civil registration, powers of attorney and other procedures. Applicants generally have to submit supporting documents for review before attending the consular section.

Therefore, applicants should check the current requirements for their specific consular procedure before requesting an appointment or travelling to Berlin.

Appointments

The consular section of the Honduran Embassy in Berlin works by prior appointment. The embassy currently states that consular procedures are handled only after an appointment has been arranged.

Applicants first review the requirements for the service they need and then send the requested information and documents to the consular section. After the documents have been checked, the embassy confirms the appointment by email.

Prior appointments are required for procedures including passports, visas, birth and marriage registrations, powers of attorney, travel authorisations and safe-conduct documents.

Applicants should bring the required original documents and any requested proof of payment to their appointment.

Diplomatic Missions between Honduras and Germany

Honduras is represented in Germany by the Honduran Embassy in Berlin. Its official administrative and consular district covers the entire Federal Republic of Germany.

Honduras also maintains Honorary Consulates in Hamburg, Münster and Munich.

The Honorary Consulate in Hamburg serves the state of Hamburg. The Honorary Consulate in Münster is responsible for North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, while the Honorary Consulate in Munich covers Bavaria.

Honorary consulates generally provide a more limited range of services than the embassy. Applicants should therefore confirm whether their particular request can be handled locally or must be referred to Berlin.
