About the South Korean Embassy in Berlin
The South Korean Embassy in Berlin represents the Republic of Korea in Germany and supports bilateral relations between South Korea and Germany. Its work includes political dialogue, economic cooperation, cultural exchange and consular affairs.
South Korea and Germany maintain close relations in areas such as trade, technology, science, education and culture. Both countries also cooperate on international security, innovation, climate policy and other global issues.
The diplomatic relationship is supported by regular governmental contacts as well as cooperation between universities, research institutions, companies and cultural organisations in both countries.
Visa Information
German citizens can currently travel to South Korea without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days. This applies to tourism and other eligible short-term visits without paid employment.
Germany is currently included in South Korea's temporary exemption from the Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA). This exemption has been extended until 31 December 2026. Travellers who do not hold a K-ETA or another exemption may need to submit an electronic arrival card before entering South Korea.
Visa applications that are required for longer stays or specific activities are generally submitted through the Korea Visa Application Center in Berlin or through the competent South Korean consular mission in Germany, depending on the applicant's residence and the visa category.
South Korean citizens can travel to Germany without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days. In addition, South Korean nationals benefit from special German immigration rules and may enter Germany without a national visa for certain longer-term purposes and apply for the required residence permit after arrival.

Responsibility is divided between several South Korean missions in Germany. Applicants should therefore check which mission is responsible for their place of residence and requested service before arranging a visit.
Appointments
South Korean consular services generally use an online advance appointment system. Applicants can book visits through the Overseas Koreans 365 Civil Service Portal and select the responsible diplomatic mission and type of service.
Ordinary Korean visa applications are a special case. Since 2021, most visa applications in the Berlin jurisdiction are no longer submitted directly to the embassy but to the Korea Visa Application Center in Berlin. Postal submission from anywhere in Germany is also available for eligible applications.
A-1 diplomatic, A-2 official and A-3 treaty visa applications remain handled directly by the responsible South Korean diplomatic mission and require a prior appointment.
Diplomatic Missions between South Korea and Germany
South Korea's principal diplomatic representation in Germany is the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Berlin. Its consular district includes Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
