About the Nigerien Embassy in Berlin
The Nigerien Embassy in Berlin represents the Republic of Niger in Germany and is the country's principal diplomatic and consular mission in Germany. Its work includes diplomatic relations, consular affairs and official contacts between Niger and Germany.
Relations between Germany and Niger have changed significantly since the political upheaval in Niger in 2023. Much of the previous bilateral cooperation in areas such as security, stabilisation and development was suspended or placed under political review.
Germany nevertheless continues to support the Nigerien population through civilian measures and maintains diplomatic relations with Niger.
Visa Information
Nigerien citizens require a visa to travel to Germany. Short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period generally require a Schengen visa. Longer stays for purposes such as employment, study or family reunification require the appropriate German national visa.
Germany's Embassy in Niamey is currently unable to provide regular consular and visa services because its personnel have been temporarily relocated from Niger. German consular matters relating to Niger are currently handled by the German Embassy in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
German citizens require a visa to enter Niger. A particularly important restriction currently applies to German passport holders: since 22 August 2025, the Nigerien Embassy in Berlin has no longer been authorised to issue entry visas to German nationals.
According to the embassy's current instructions, German nationals who require a Nigerien visa must apply through an authorised Nigerien embassy in Geneva, Ankara or Moscow. Travellers should verify the procedure directly with the responsible mission before making travel plans.

Appointments
Appointment requirements depend on the requested service. For passport applications and passport collection, the Nigerien Embassy in Berlin currently requires a prior appointment.
The embassy's passport instructions state that appointments can be arranged directly with the mission. By contrast, several other consular services, such as legalisation, consular registration and selected civil-status procedures, are currently accepted without an appointment during the designated consular service periods.
Applicants should therefore check the instructions for their specific consular service before visiting rather than assuming that the same appointment rule applies to every procedure.
Diplomatic Missions between Niger and Germany
Niger's principal diplomatic representation in Germany is the Embassy of the Republic of Niger in Berlin. Its diplomatic and consular district covers the entire Federal Republic of Germany.
Niger also currently maintains Honorary Consuls in Hamburg and Stuttgart. The Honorary Consul in Hamburg serves Hamburg, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, while the Honorary Consul in Stuttgart serves Baden-Württemberg.
Honorary consular offices offer a more limited range of services than the Embassy in Berlin and should not be assumed to provide passport or visa services.
Germany maintains the German Embassy in Niamey. However, its personnel are currently temporarily relocated because of the security situation, and the embassy cannot presently provide consular assistance in Niger.
