What can an honorary consul do?
An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by France and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help French citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.

Slovakia’s days off are New Year’s Day and the Day of the Establishment of the Slovak Republic (1 January), Epiphany (6 January), Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day (1 May), Victory over Fascism Day (8 May), St Cyril and St Methodius Day (5 July), the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (29 August), Our Lady of Seven Sorrows (15 September), All Saints’ Day (1 November) and 24, 25 and 26 December.
