Location of the Embassy
Who runs the Uruguayan Embassy?
Álvaro Enrique González Otero heads the embassy as ambassador; the Dutch protocol list gives 6 July 2022 as the date of the presentation of credentials. Because The Hague hosts the Dutch government as well as the International Court of Justice and the OPCW, diplomatic work here often covers international law and organisations too.
Documents checklist
What Uruguayan citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Uruguayan government information:
Renewing a Uruguayan passport abroad
- Request an appointment with the consulate in the way it indicates (e-mail or form)
- Your expired, soon-to-expire or damaged passport and your identity documents
- Some consulates also ask for a recent criminal record certificate from your country of residence, apostilled
- If lost or stolen: a police report from the country where you are
- Passports are printed in Montevideo and sent to the consulate – allow about 20–30 working days
- Emergency passport only exceptionally, if your Uruguayan passport was still valid, and after approval from Uruguay

Requirements and fees can change and individual posts may ask for more – confirm the current list with the embassy before your visit.
Travelling from the Netherlands to Uruguay
Dutch citizens do not need a visa for short tourist stays in Uruguay (up to 90 days); a valid passport is required. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes the current entry rules in its travel advice (in Dutch); check it before booking.
Closing days
The embassy is normally closed on Dutch public holidays and on Uruguay’s national day (25 August).
Emergency assistance
In the Netherlands, the emergency number is 112; for non-urgent police matters call 0900 8844.
