Holders of ordinary Armenian passports do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine’s entry-regime table (as of 8 June 2023). Ukraine is not part of the Schengen area and applies its own visa rules.
Which Armenian office issues passports and visas?
Passports, visas and other formal consular services for Armenian citizens are handled by the Armenian Embassy in Kyiv.
What can an honorary consul do?
An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Armenia and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Armenian citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
Closing days
Article 73 of the Labour Code of Ukraine lists nine public holidays, among them Christmas (25 December), Constitution Day (28 June) and Independence Day (24 August), but under martial law these are working days (Law No. 2136-IX, Article 6). Martial law remains in force throughout Ukraine, according to GOV.UK travel advice. The honorary consulate may close on Armenia’s national day (21 September) and on other days set by its own government.
Emergency assistance
In Ukraine, dial 103 for an ambulance, 101 for the fire service and 102 for the police (GOV.UK travel advice). Ukrainian citizens who need help in Armenia can contact the Ukrainian embassy accredited there (list of Ukrainian missions: mfa.gov.ua).
