The embassy and its network in the Czech Republic

Philipp Charwath heads the embassy as ambassador; the Czech diplomatic list gives 26 August 2026 as the date of the presentation of credentials. One honorary consulate – in Brno – supports Austrian citizens.

Areas covered by the honorary consuls, as listed by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

  • Brno: the South Moravian Region, the Moravian-Silesian Region, the Olomouc Region, the Zlín Region and the Vysočina Region

Documents checklist

What Austrian citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Austrian government information:

Austrian passport (application abroad)

  • Book an appointment and apply in person (also infants) – postal applications are not accepted; some honorary consulates also take applications
  • Passport application form (Reisepassantrag), downloadable from the embassy website
  • Birth certificate and proof of Austrian citizenship (Staatsbürgerschaftsnachweis) or your current Austrian passport/ID
  • Proof of residence in the Czech Republic and, where applicable, your residence permit
  • A recent passport photo meeting the EU/Austrian criteria (taken by a professional photographer)
  • Marriage, divorce or name-change documents if relevant; foreign documents with apostille and German translation (English often accepted)
