Honorary consul Thomas Herzog represents The Bahamas for the whole of Germany – it is the country’s only consular office here. Office hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 16:00.
Which Bahamian office issues passports and visas?
Passports and formal consular matters are handled by the Bahamas High Commission in London, which is also accredited to Germany. Germans need no visa for The Bahamas for tourist stays of up to three months.
What can an honorary consul do?
An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by the Bahamas and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Bahamian citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
