On 13 August 2026 the embassy reminded Chinese travellers that, under the amendment adopted by the Montenegrin government on 23 July 2026, Montenegro will end visa exemptions and facilitations for citizens of China, Belarus, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey from 1 November 2026.

Do Chinese citizens need a visa for Montenegro?

Citizens of China generally need a visa for Montenegro; until 31 October 2026 the decree exempts organised tourist groups and holders of business passports with an invitation letter for stays of up to 30 days (Montenegro’s Decree on Visa Regime); these exemptions end on 1 November 2026. Holders of a valid Schengen, Australian, Japanese, Canadian, New Zealand, Irish, US or UK visa, or of a residence permit of those countries, may enter Montenegro without a visa for up to 30 days (at most until the visa or permit expires), according to Article 7 of the decree.
