About the Colombian Embassy in The Hague

The ambassador is Carolina Olarte Bácares, who presented credentials to the King of the Netherlands on 25 January 2023. Unlike in most countries, the embassies in the Netherlands are not in the capital Amsterdam but in The Hague, the seat of government. Colombia also has a consulate general in Amsterdam.

Consular services

Requests the consular staff deal with:

  • Colombian passports and emergency travel documents
  • Registration of births, marriages and deaths
  • Certification and legalisation of documents
  • Certificates for pensions abroad
  • Visas for travellers who need one for Colombia

Depending on where you live, consular matters may also be handled by the consulate general in Amsterdam. The Dutch government does not publish the consular districts – ask the embassy if in doubt.

Documents checklist

The most frequent applications and the documents the Colombian authorities ask for:

Colombian passport (application abroad)

  • Abroad, only Colombian consulates issue passports – the application and the collection are in person
  • Original cédula de ciudadanía (or the original contraseña receipt if you do not have the card yet)
  • To collect the passport: original Colombian ID and the payment receipt
  • Ordinary passports are valid for 10 years; processing at consulates takes about 8 working days
  • Minors: accompanied by a parent or legal representative with their cédula; a third party needs a special power of attorney from both parents (apostilled and translated into Spanish if made abroad)

Sources: Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – passports, Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – passport requirements (checked October 2026). Requirements and fees can change and individual posts may ask for more – confirm the current list with the embassy before your visit.
