What can an honorary consul do?

An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Djibouti and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Djiboutian citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.

Closing days

Luxembourg has 11 public holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter Monday, Labour Day (1 May), Europe Day (9 May), Ascension Day, Whit Monday, the National Day (23 June), Assumption (15 August), All Saints’ Day (1 November), Christmas Day and Boxing Day (26 December). A holiday that falls on a weekend is not moved; employees get a compensatory day off instead, so some offices close on a replacement day. In 2027, Easter Monday falls on 29 March and Ascension Day on 6 May. The honorary consulate may also close on Djibouti’s national day (27 June).
