Who runs the French Embassy?

According to the Italian diplomatic list, France is represented by Ambassador Anne-Marie Descôtes (accredited 26 March 2026). The Italian diplomatic list names 11 accredited diplomats for the embassy. Passport for adults (application abroad)

  • Apply in person at the embassy or consulate – most posts require an appointment
  • Optional online pre-application (pré-demande) – bring the number or QR code
  • Your identity card, if you have one (valid or expired less than 5 years ago)
  • Identity photo less than 6 months old that meets the official standards
  • Proof of address less than 1 year old
  • Without an ID card: a birth certificate less than 3 months old (unless your birthplace’s civil registry is digitised) and, if needed, proof of French nationality

Visa and entry information for Italian citizens

Italian citizens can travel to France without a visa; a valid passport or national identity card is enough. Details: Italian travel advice (Viaggiare Sicuri).

Closing days

Expect the embassy to be closed on Italian national holidays such as 25 April, 2 June and 15 August and on France’s national day (14 July). Offices in the city also close on 29 June for the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. If your visit falls close to a holiday, confirm by phone or e-mail.

Emergency assistance

French nationals in urgent need of help can reach the embassy on +39 06 686011. The embassy can help with lost passports, arrests and serious accidents, but it cannot cover costs or interfere with Italian authorities. The Italian emergency number is 112. Italian citizens who need help in France contact the Italian Embassy in Paris.
