Location of the Consulate

Which Bissau-Guinean office issues passports and visas?

Passports and other formal consular services for Bissau-Guinean citizens are handled by the Bissau-Guinean embassy responsible for Cyprus.

What can an honorary consul do?

An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Guinea-Bissau and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Bissau-Guinean citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.

Closing days

The honorary consulate is normally closed on the public holidays observed in Cyprus – 1 January, Epiphany (6 January), Green Monday, Greek Independence Day (25 March), Cyprus National Day (1 April), Orthodox Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1 May, Kataklysmos (Whit Monday), the Assumption (15 August), Cyprus Independence Day (1 October), Ochi Day (28 October) and Christmas (25 and 26 December); Easter and the related holidays follow the Orthodox calendar.
