Who runs the Iraqi Embassy?
The current head of mission is Ambassador Hisham Ali Akbar Ibrahim AL Alawi, in office since April 2026. From Vienna, the embassy is also responsible for Slovakia and Repulik Slowenien Österreich. 20 diplomats are registered with the Austrian Foreign Ministry for this embassy. Do not confuse the embassy with Iraq’s permanent mission to the United Nations and other international organisations in Vienna: that mission deals with multilateral diplomacy only.
Consular services
Typical consular services include:
- Certificates for pensions and social security abroad
- Citizenship and residence register matters
Fees and current requirements are published on the embassy website (https://mofa.gov.iq/vienna).
Do I need an appointment?
Without an appointment you may be turned away at the door. Contact it by phone or e-mail to book a time.
