About the honorary consulate in Tórshavn
The appointment dates from 2023, according to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The office is in the Faroe Islands – an autonomous territory of the Danish Realm – and is the nearest Israeli contact point for the islands.
The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not publish visa rules for individual countries. Its travel advice points out that the authorities of the destination decide on entry rules, and asks Danish citizens to check with that country’s nearest embassy or consulate before departure – for Israel, that means this mission. What can an honorary consul do?
An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Israel and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Israeli citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
