About the Italian Consular Agency in Wolfsburg
Italy’s only consular agency in Germany exists because of Volkswagen: from 1962, thousands of Italian workers came to Wolfsburg to build cars, and many of their families stayed. The agency serves Italians in Wolfsburg and the districts of Gifhorn and Helmstedt.

Documents checklist
Prepare these documents before your appointment. The lists are taken from official Italian sources:
Italian passport (application abroad)
- Registration in AIRE (registry of Italians resident abroad), with your current address, at the consulate for your area
- Book an appointment in the Prenot@mi system (adults and minors aged 12 or over) and apply in person – fingerprints are taken
- A recent colour photo, 35 × 40 mm, front-facing on a light background, taken within the last six months
- Your expired or expiring passport as proof of identity
- Passports are not renewed – a new passport is issued (valid 10 years for adults)
- Fee: about €116 (e.g. €116.20 at the Consulate General in Paris since 1 December 2025), often payable in local currency

Visa information
No visa is needed for Germans travelling to Italy. Italians working in Wolfsburg register with the local residents’ office and with AIRE.
Closing days
Closed on public holidays in Lower Saxony and on Italian national holidays.
