Italian passport (application abroad)
- Registration in AIRE (registry of Italians resident abroad), with your current address, at the consulate for your area
- Book an appointment in the Prenot@mi system (adults and minors aged 12 or over) and apply in person – fingerprints are taken
- A recent colour photo, 35 × 40 mm, front-facing on a light background, taken within the last six months
- Your expired or expiring passport as proof of identity
- Passports are not renewed – a new passport is issued (valid 10 years for adults)
- Fee: about €116 (e.g. €116.20 at the Consulate General in Paris since 1 December 2025), often payable in local currency

Expect the consulate general to be closed on Spanish national holidays as well as on the Italian national day, 2 June. Regional holiday in Catalonia: the National Day of Catalonia (La Diada) (11 September). Local holidays of the municipality can bring further closures.
