Renewing a Mexican passport abroad (adults)

  • Book an appointment via MiConsulado (WhatsApp/phone) or citas.sre.gob.mx – some consulates also accept walk-ins
  • The passport you are renewing (or the theft/loss report from the local authorities)
  • Application form and payment according to the validity chosen (3, 6 or 10 years for adults abroad)
  • Older passports may require proof of nationality and identity again (e.g. INE voter card, matrícula consular)
  • One-year passports and some old booklet types cannot be renewed – apply as a first passport

Sources: Embassy of Mexico in Spain – passport renewal for adults (sre.gob.mx), Consulate General of Mexico in New York – Mexican passport (sre.gob.mx) (checked October 2026). Requirements and fees can change and individual posts may ask for more – confirm the current list with the embassy before your visit.
