Citizens of North Macedonia with ordinary passports do not need a visa for visits to Serbia of up to 90 days within a six-month period, according to the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ visa regime page; a national identity card can also be used to enter. Serbia is not part of the Schengen area and applies its own visa rules.

What can an honorary consul do?

An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by North Macedonia and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Macedonian citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.

Closing days

Serbia’s non-working public holidays are New Year (1 and 2 January), Orthodox Christmas (7 January), Statehood Day (15 and 16 February), Orthodox Easter from Good Friday to Easter Monday, Labour Day (1 and 2 May) and Armistice Day (11 November). If a state holiday falls on a Sunday, the next working day is off. In 2027 Orthodox Easter falls on 2 May, which is also the second day of Labour Day, so offices close from 30 April to 4 May 2027. The honorary consulate may also close on North Macedonia’s national day (2 August).
