Documents checklist

What Russian citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Russian government information:

Russian passport for travel abroad (zagranpasport)

  • Application form prepared online: zp.midpass.ru (biometric 10-year passport) or passportzu.kdmid.ru (5-year passport)
  • Photo 35 × 45 mm attached to the application (one extra photo for the non-biometric passport)
  • Your current Russian passport for travel abroad – or a valid internal passport if it has expired, is unusable or was never issued
  • If the name has changed: marriage or name-change certificate; foreign documents need an apostille and a notarised Russian translation
  • If the old passport was lost: a written statement about the loss
  • Most consulates work by appointment only (electronic queue)

Christmas Eve (24 December) is also a day off in 2026. When a holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, the Hungarian government usually turns the Monday or Friday in between into a rest day (in 2026: 2 January and 21 August), so many offices close on those days as well. It is usually also closed on Russia’s national day (12 June).

In Hungary, call 112 for any emergency; the direct numbers are 104 for an ambulance, 105 for the fire service and 107 for the police. Hungarian citizens who need help in Russia can contact the Hungarian embassy accredited to the country or the Consular Service of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (24-hour line +36 80 36 80 36).
