Who runs the Russian Embassy?
The embassy names Alexey Meshkov, Ambassador as head of mission. In the other direction, about 4,985 French citizens are registered with the French consular network in Russia. What Russian citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Russian government information:
Russian passport for travel abroad (zagranpasport)
- Application form prepared online: zp.midpass.ru (biometric 10-year passport) or passportzu.kdmid.ru (5-year passport)
- Photo 35 × 45 mm attached to the application (one extra photo for the non-biometric passport)
- Your current Russian passport for travel abroad – or a valid internal passport if it has expired, is unusable or was never issued
- If the name has changed: marriage or name-change certificate; foreign documents need an apostille and a notarised Russian translation
- If the old passport was lost: a written statement about the loss
- Most consulates work by appointment only (electronic queue)

Visa and entry information for French citizens
French citizens need a visa for Russia, to be obtained before travelling. The French Foreign Ministry advises against travel to some regions of Russia. Details: French travel advice (Conseils aux voyageurs).
Closing days
Besides French public holidays, the embassy closes on the Russian national holiday (12 June). Bridge days around holidays may bring extra closures.
Emergency assistance
In an emergency, Russian citizens should call the embassy on +33 1 45 04 05 50. Embassies can issue emergency travel documents, contact relatives and provide lists of lawyers or doctors; they cannot pay bills or act as a lawyer. Local emergency numbers in Russia: police 102, fire brigade 101.
