Location of the Embassy

Before your visit

You will find the embassy at Rue de la Faucille 14, 1201 Geneva.

  • Public hours: Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00.
  • Preparation: check the required documents on the embassy website and bring originals with copies.

The embassy and its staff

The current head of mission is Ambassador Marcello Beccari, who presented credentials in August 2018. Unusually for an embassy, it is located in Geneva – the city that also hosts the UN’s European headquarters – rather than in Bern. The consular section covers Fribourg, Vaud, Valais, Neuchâtel, Geneva and Jura.

Which Sammarinese office is responsible for me?

The consular section of the embassy is responsible for Sammarinese citizens in Fribourg, Vaud, Valais, Neuchâtel, Geneva and Jura. Two honorary consulates (Bellinzona and Zurich) can help with information and some formalities.

Consular services

What you can usually arrange here:

  • Sammarinese passports and emergency travel documents
  • Certification and legalisation of documents
  • Certificates for pensions abroad
  • Citizenship and civil register matters

Do I need an appointment?

Simple questions can usually be settled by e-mail; personal appearance is needed mainly for passports.

Travelling from Switzerland to San Marino

Swiss travellers should ask the Sammarinese embassy about visa and entry requirements – the FDFA does not publish them itself. San Marino is not subject to an FDFA travel warning at present. See the FDFA travel advice.

Closing days

The embassy is closed on Swiss public holidays and on the Sammarinese national holiday (3 September). Bridge days around holidays may bring extra closures.

Emergency assistance

In an emergency, Sammarinese citizens should call the embassy on +41 22 918 50 20. Consular staff can replace lost travel documents and inform family members; they do not provide legal representation or money. Swiss citizens in trouble in San Marino should contact the Swiss Embassy in Vatican City, which also covers San Marino – or call the FDFA Helpline on +41 58 465 33 33.
