Who runs the Turkish Embassy?

According to the Belgian protocol list, Türkiye is represented by Ambassador Görkem Baris Tantekin (credentials presented 16 July 2025). Many embassies in Brussels are also accredited to Luxembourg, and some Turkish diplomats in the city work with the European Union and NATO – these are separate missions with their own staff. Türkiye also has consulates general in Antwerp and Brussels. One honorary consulate supports Turkish citizens in other parts of Belgium.

Consular services

The consular section typically handles:

  • Turkish passports and emergency travel documents
  • Registration of births, marriages and deaths
  • Certification and legalisation of documents
  • Certificates for pensions abroad
  • Citizenship and civil register matters

Consular matters may be handled by the consulates general depending on where you live: Brussels (the Brussels-Capital Region, the provinces of Flemish Brabant, Walloon Brabant, Hainaut, Liège, Luxembourg and Namur); Antwerp (the provinces of East Flanders, West Flanders, Antwerp and Limburg).

Travelling from Belgium to Türkiye

Belgian citizens do not need a visa for short tourist stays in Türkiye (up to 90 days); according to the Belgian Foreign Ministry, a valid identity card (eID) or passport is accepted. The Belgian Foreign Ministry keeps the entry rules for Belgians in its travel documents database; check it before booking.

Closing days

Like most offices in Belgium, the embassy closes on public holidays – including Easter Monday, Ascension Day and Whit Monday; Turkish celebrations on 29 October (national day) usually mean a closure too. If your visit falls close to a holiday, confirm by phone or e-mail.

Emergency assistance
