  • Emirati passports and emergency travel documents
  • Registration of births, marriages and deaths
  • Certification and legalisation of documents
  • Powers of attorney and notarial acts
  • Citizenship and civil register matters

Documents checklist

Prepare these documents before your appointment. The lists are taken from official Emirati sources:

Renewing a UAE passport abroad

  • Possible when the passport has expired or has one year or less of validity left
  • Apply online through ICP or the MoFA smart services with UAE PASS (“Renew Passports of UAE Nationals Abroad”) and note the reference number
  • A personal photo meeting ICAO standards (not identical to the current passport photo)
  • A letter from the embassy confirming the reason for your stay abroad (e.g. study, treatment or work)
  • Hand in the original passport and photo at the embassy, pay the fee there and collect the renewed passport later

Sources: Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship (ICP) – renew passports of UAE nationals abroad, UAE Government portal (u.ae) – the Emirati passport (checked October 2026). Requirements and fees can change and individual posts may ask for more – confirm the current list with the embassy before your visit.

Do I need an appointment?

Many consular services require an appointment – check the website first.

Do Swedish citizens need a visa for the United Arab Emirates?

Swedish travellers should confirm visa requirements for the United Arab Emirates with the Emirati embassy before booking; the Swedish Foreign Ministry publishes travel advice for the United Arab Emirates but no visa rules for other countries.

Closing days

Expect the embassy to be closed on Swedish holidays such as the National Day (6 June), Midsummer Eve and Christmas Eve. The Emirati national day, 2 December, normally means a closure too. Many missions also close on their own national and religious holidays – call ahead.

Emergency assistance

Emirati nationals in urgent need of help can reach the embassy on +46 8 411 12 44. The embassy can help with lost passports, arrests and serious accidents, but it cannot cover costs or interfere with Swedish authorities. In Sweden, the emergency number is 112. Swedish citizens who need help in the United Arab Emirates should contact the Swedish embassy responsible for the country or the Swedish Foreign Ministry’s 24-hour consular duty service on +46 8 405 50 05; Sweden Abroad lists the local contacts.
