What Uruguayan citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Uruguayan government information:

Renewing a Uruguayan passport abroad

  • Request an appointment with the consulate in the way it indicates (e-mail or form)
  • Your expired, soon-to-expire or damaged passport and your identity documents
  • Some consulates also ask for a recent criminal record certificate from your country of residence, apostilled
  • If lost or stolen: a police report from the country where you are
  • Passports are printed in Montevideo and sent to the consulate – allow about 20–30 working days
  • Emergency passport only exceptionally, if your Uruguayan passport was still valid, and after approval from Uruguay
