What Venezuelan citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Venezuelan government information:

Extending a Venezuelan passport abroad (prórroga)

  • Start the request online on the SAIME portal (saime.gob.ve), choose “Obtención de prórroga de pasaporte en el extranjero” and the consulate where you will collect it
  • Pay the SAIME fee online (US$100 by international card, according to several embassies) – the consulate also charges a consular fee (minors under 18 are exempt)
  • Only biometric passports (with chip) in good condition with at least two free sheets can be extended
  • Bring the passport to the consulate, where the printed extension is stamped in
  • Minors: birth certificate; naturalised citizens: the Gaceta Oficial

Travelling from Italy to Venezuela

Italian citizens do not need a visa for short tourist stays in Venezuela (up to 90 days). Details: Italian travel advice (Viaggiare Sicuri).

Closing days

Expect the embassy to be closed on Italian national holidays such as 25 April, 2 June and 15 August; Venezuelan celebrations on 5 July (national day) usually mean a closure too. Offices in the city also close on 29 June for the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Check before visiting around Christmas, Easter and the August holidays (Ferragosto).
