About the honorary consulate in Sofia
Bulgarian citizens do not need a visa for short stays in Uzbekistan of up to 30 days, according to the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; a valid passport is required. See the ministry’s visa table for Bulgarian citizens (in Bulgarian).
Which Uzbek office issues passports and visas?
Official documents for Uzbek citizens are issued by the Uzbek Embassy in Ankara (accredited to Bulgaria); the honorary consulate can explain the procedure.
Note: Uzbekistan has no resident embassy in Sofia; its embassy in Ankara is accredited to Bulgaria.
What can an honorary consul do?
An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Uzbekistan and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Uzbek citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
