The embassy and its network in Belgium
According to the Belgian protocol list, France is represented by Ambassador Xavier François Jean Michel Lapeyre de Cabanes (credentials presented 19 June 2024). Brussels hosts the EU institutions and NATO, so several countries keep separate missions there; this page covers the bilateral embassy to Belgium. France also has a consulate general in Brussels. Eight honorary consulates support French citizens in other parts of Belgium.
Consular services
What you can usually arrange here:
- French passports and emergency travel documents
- Registration of births, marriages and deaths
- Certification and legalisation of documents
- Powers of attorney and notarial acts
- Certificates for pensions abroad
Note: most consular matters for French citizens in Belgium are handled by the French Consulate General in Brussels, whose district covers the whole country.
Documents checklist
What French citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official French government information:
Passport for adults (application abroad)

- Your identity card, if you have one (valid or expired less than 5 years ago)
- Identity photo less than 6 months old that meets the official standards
