Who runs the Bangladeshi Embassy?

Khandker Masudul Alam heads the embassy as ambassador; the Belgian list gives 14 March 2025 as the date of the presentation of credentials. Brussels hosts the EU institutions and NATO, so several countries keep separate missions there; this page covers the bilateral embassy to Belgium. Two honorary consulates support Bangladeshi citizens in other parts of Belgium.

Documents checklist

Prepare these documents before your appointment. The lists are taken from official Bangladeshi sources:

Bangladesh e-passport (application abroad)

  • Apply online on the e-passport portal (epassport.gov.bd) and print the confirmation page showing “Application Submitted”
  • Book an appointment and attend in person for biometric enrolment (fingerprints, iris scan, photo, signature)
  • Bangladeshi national ID card (NID) or a 17-digit online birth registration certificate (English version) – foreign or handwritten birth certificates are not accepted
  • Proof of legal status in Belgium (residence permit)
  • Reissue: your current passport; lost passport: a police report (GD) with the passport number
  • The passport is printed in Dhaka – processing can take several weeks

Closing days

The embassy is closed on Belgian public holidays and on Bangladesh’s national day (26 March). Many offices work reduced hours in summer – call ahead in July and August.

Emergency assistance

Bangladeshi nationals in urgent need of help can reach the embassy on +32 2 640 55 00. The embassy can help with lost passports, arrests and serious accidents, but it cannot cover costs or interfere with Belgian authorities. The Belgian emergency number is 112 (police: 101).
