About the Belgian Embassy in Madrid
Didier Charles J. Nagant de Deuxchaisnes heads the embassy as ambassador; the Spanish list gives 3 September 2024 as the starting date. The Spanish diplomatic list names 11 accredited diplomats and attachés for the embassy. Belgium also has career consular offices in Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Documents checklist
The most frequent applications and the documents the Belgian authorities ask for:
Belgian passport (application abroad)
- You must be registered in the population register of a Belgian embassy or consulate (Belgians registered in a Belgian municipality cannot get an ordinary passport abroad)
- Apply in person (from age 6) – fingerprints from age 12; many posts work by appointment
- Completed and signed application form; one recent photo (many posts take the photo themselves)
- Your current passport, which is cancelled when the new one is delivered
- Minors: form signed by both parents
- You may also apply at another Belgian post or a Belgian municipality – this can take longer

Do Spanish citizens need a visa for Belgium?

Closing days
Like most offices in Spain, the embassy closes on public holidays and on Belgium’s national day (21 July). Regional holiday to note: the Community of Madrid Day (2 May). Local holidays of the municipality can bring further closures.
