About the honorary consulate in Copenhagen

The year given in the list for the appointment is 2014. The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists office hours (Monday to Friday 09:00–17:00); as honorary consuls work part-time, confirm before you go.

Despite the name, the office is in Frederiksberg, near Copenhagen.

The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not publish visa rules for individual countries. Its travel advice points out that the authorities of the destination decide on entry rules, and asks Danish citizens to check with that country’s nearest embassy or consulate before departure – for Belize, that means this mission. Which Belizean office issues passports and visas?

An honorary consul cannot issue passports or visas; these are handled by the Belizean Embassy in London (accredited to Denmark).

Note: Belize has no resident embassy in Copenhagen; its embassy in London is accredited to Denmark.

What can an honorary consul do?

An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Belize and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Belize citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
