Documents checklist

The most frequent applications and the documents the Chilean authorities ask for:

Chilean passport (application abroad)

  • Book an appointment in the consulate’s online agenda – passport and identity card can be done in the same appointment
  • Your Chilean identity card must be valid; if it has expired, renew it together with the passport
  • Your previous passport, which is kept and cancelled (if lost: Chilean ID card and police report)
  • Photos are usually taken at the consulate
  • Minors: both parents, or a recent apostilled notarial authorisation from the absent parent
  • Passports are made in Chile – allow several weeks

Do I need an appointment?

Many consular services require an appointment – check the embassy website first.

Travelling from Italy to Chile

Italian citizens do not need a visa for short tourist stays in Chile (up to 90 days). Details: Italian travel advice (Viaggiare Sicuri).

Closing days

The embassy is closed on Italian public holidays as well as on the Chilean national day, 18 September. Offices in the city also close on 29 June for the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Many offices work reduced hours in August – call ahead in summer.

Emergency assistance

Chilean nationals in urgent need of help can reach the embassy on +39 06 844091. Embassies can issue emergency travel documents, contact relatives and provide lists of lawyers or doctors; they cannot pay bills or act as a lawyer. The Italian emergency number is 112.
