Documents checklist

What Czech citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Czech government information:

Czech passport (application abroad)

  • Apply in person by appointment at the embassy or consulate general – no postal or proxy applications; honorary consulates do not accept passport applications
  • Proof of identity (e.g. travel document or driving licence)
  • Proof of Czech citizenship: valid Czech passport or ID card (občanský průkaz), or a certificate of Czech citizenship
  • A document with your birth number (rodné číslo), e.g. Czech birth certificate; Czech marriage certificate if your surname changed
  • Your previous Czech passport, if you have one
  • Legal processing time for applications abroad: 120 days

Closing days

Expect the embassy to be closed on Irish public holidays such as St Patrick’s Day (17 March), the bank holiday Mondays and St Stephen’s Day (26 December). The Czech national day, 28 October, normally means a closure too.

Emergency assistance

In Ireland, the emergency numbers are 112 and 999. Irish citizens who need help in the Czech Republic can contact the Embassy of Ireland in Prague; in an emergency the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin can be reached on +353 1 408 2000, and its travel advice lists the local contacts.
