About the Embassy of Finland in Ukraine

The ambassador is Tarja Fernandez, according to the directory of foreign diplomatic missions published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (October 2026), which gives 25 October 2024 as the date credentials were presented. The office is in the capital, Kyiv, about 29 km in a straight line from Boryspil International Airport. Ukraine’s airspace remains closed to civil flights, according to GOV.UK travel advice (October 2026).

Do Finnish citizens need a visa for Ukraine?

Holders of ordinary Finnish passports do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine’s entry-regime table (as of 8 June 2023). Ukraine is not part of the Schengen area and applies its own visa rules.

Documents checklist

What Finnish citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Finnish government information:

Finnish passport or ID card (application abroad)

  • Apply in person at a Finnish embassy, consulate general or career-led consulate (only some honorary consulates can issue passports) – most missions require a booking
  • Make sure your data in the Finnish population register are up to date before applying
  • A passport photo no more than 6 months old (printed photo when applying at a mission)
  • Your old passport or ID card for identification
  • Men aged 23–30: military service documents
  • Collection: some online applications can only be completed and collected in Finland – check before choosing that route
