Documents checklist
The most frequent applications and the documents the Kosovar authorities ask for:
Kosovo passport (application at a mission abroad)
- Apply in person – postal applications are not possible because of the photo and electronic signature
- Adults: a copy of your Kosovo ID card (your data must be in the civil registry) and proof of payment of the consular fee
- Minors: appear with both parents, birth extract (and ID copy from age 16); an absent parent can authorise the other at the mission
- Lost passport abroad: police report – the mission verifies it before issuing the new document
- Urgent return: one-way travel document valid 30 days

Closing days

Christmas Eve (24 December) is also a day off in 2026. When a holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, the Hungarian government usually turns the Monday or Friday in between into a rest day (in 2026: 2 January and 21 August), so many offices close on those days as well. It is usually also closed on Kosovo’s national day (17 February).

In an emergency, Kosovar citizens should contact the embassy. In Hungary, call 112 for any emergency; the direct numbers are 104 for an ambulance, 105 for the fire service and 107 for the police. Hungarian citizens who need help in Kosovo can contact the Embassy of Hungary in Pristina or the Consular Service of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (24-hour line +36 80 36 80 36).
