About the honorary consulate in Sofia
Bulgarian citizens need a visa for Sudan, to be obtained before travelling, according to the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Source: Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – visas for Bulgarian citizens (in Bulgarian).
Which Sudanese office issues passports and visas?
The Sudanese Embassy in Bucharest (accredited to Bulgaria) is the place for passports and most consular matters; the honorary consul can advise but does not replace it.
Note: Sudan has no resident embassy in Sofia; its embassy in Bucharest is accredited to Bulgaria.
What can an honorary consul do?
An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Sudan and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Sudanese citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
