Do Turkish citizens need a visa for Canada?
Türkiye is not among the visa-exempt countries listed in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (section 190 and Schedule 1.1), so its citizens generally need a temporary resident visa (TRV) to visit Canada.
Documents checklist
The most frequent applications and the documents the Turkish authorities ask for:
New ordinary passport (adults)
- Book an appointment first – applications must be made in person
- Turkish ID card (T.C. Kimlik Kartı) or temporary ID document
- All previous passports that have not been cancelled, valid or expired
- One biometric photo, 50 × 60 mm, white background, taken within the last 6 months
- The application form is prepared at the consulate
- Passports cannot be extended – a new passport is issued each time
Temporary passport (emergency travel)
- Turkish ID card – original and photocopy
- Any previous passports (valid or expired) that have not been cancelled
- If both passport and ID are lost: a photo document such as a family register or driving licence
- One biometric photo, 50 × 60 mm, white background
- Plane or bus ticket back to Türkiye or to your country of residence
- No passport fee is charged for a temporary passport
