Documents checklist
What Finnish citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Finnish government information:
Finnish passport or ID card (application abroad)
- Apply in person at a Finnish embassy, consulate general or career-led consulate (only some honorary consulates can issue passports) – most missions require a booking
- Make sure your data in the Finnish population register are up to date before applying
- A passport photo no more than 6 months old (printed photo when applying at a mission)
- Your old passport or ID card for identification
- Men aged 23–30: military service documents
- Collection: some online applications can only be completed and collected in Finland – check before choosing that route
