Location of the Embassy

Before your visit

The embassy’s address is Opernring 3-5, 6th floor in Vienna’s 1st district (Innere Stadt).

  • Emergencies outside office hours: +358 9 1605 55 55.

The embassy and its staff

The current head of mission is Ambassador Nina Irmeli Vaskunlahti, in office since September 2023. According to the Austrian diplomatic list, the embassy has 8 diplomatic staff. Its team includes a defence attaché. Do not confuse the embassy with Finland’s permanent mission to the OSCE and the United Nations and other international organisations in Vienna: that mission deals with multilateral diplomacy only.

Which Finnish office is responsible for me?

The consular section in Vienna is responsible for Finnish citizens in all of Austria. Seven honorary consulates (Bregenz, Eisenstadt, Graz, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Linz and Salzburg) can help with information and some formalities, but passports are normally issued by the embassy.

Consular services

Typical consular services include:

  • Powers of attorney and other notarial acts
  • Certificates for pensions and social security abroad

The exact list of documents depends on your case; the embassy confirms it on request.

Documents checklist

The most frequent applications and the documents the Finnish authorities ask for:

Finnish passport or ID card (application abroad)

  • Apply in person at a Finnish embassy, consulate general or career-led consulate (only some honorary consulates can issue passports) – most missions require a booking
  • Make sure your data in the Finnish population register are up to date before applying
  • A passport photo no more than 6 months old (printed photo when applying at a mission)
  • Your old passport or ID card for identification
  • Men aged 23–30: military service documents
  • Collection: some online applications can only be completed and collected in Finland – check before choosing that route
