The ambassador is Tamar Taliashvili, who presented the credentials on 24 July 2025, according to the State Department’s Order of Precedence. The Congressional Directory also lists 2 consular offices of Georgia in the United States – career or honorary – in San Francisco (California) and New York (New York); these will get their own pages in this directory. Do Georgian citizens need a visa for the United States?
Georgia is not one of the 42 countries in the US Visa Waiver Program (Department of Homeland Security), so Georgian citizens normally need a US visa before travelling to the United States, also for short visits; visas are issued by US embassies and consulates abroad, not by the Georgian embassy in the United States.
Documents checklist
What Georgian citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Georgian government information:
Georgian biometric passport (application at a consulate)
- Book an appointment and apply in person – photo, fingerprints and signature are taken at the consulate
- A copy of your current identity document (passport or ID card)
- A passport photo (upload it when booking online or bring it on a USB stick)
- If your name changed through marriage or divorce abroad: the apostilled supporting document
- Prepared within about 45 days via a consulate; valid 10 years for adults
- Alternative: citizens abroad can reuse their existing biometric data via the online service of the Public Service Development Agency
