About the honorary consulate in Stockholm
The appointment was recognised by Sweden (exequatur) in 2012. The Swedish Foreign Ministry lists office hours (09:00–12:00); as honorary consuls work part-time, confirm before you go.
Entry and visa rules for Guyana are set by Guyana itself – the Swedish Foreign Ministry refers travellers to the Guyanese authorities. Its travel information for Guyana (in Swedish) covers safety, health and passport validity.
Which Guyanese office issues passports and visas?
The Guyanese embassy responsible for Sweden is the place for passports and most consular matters; the honorary consul can advise but does not replace it.
What can an honorary consul do?
An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Guyana and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Guyanese citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
