Documents checklist

What Mexican citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Mexican government information:

Renewing a Mexican passport abroad (adults)

  • Book an appointment via MiConsulado (WhatsApp/phone) or citas.sre.gob.mx – some consulates also accept walk-ins
  • The passport you are renewing (or the theft/loss report from the local authorities)
  • Application form and payment according to the validity chosen (3, 6 or 10 years for adults abroad)
  • Older passports may require proof of nationality and identity again (e.g. INE voter card, matrícula consular)
  • One-year passports and some old booklet types cannot be renewed – apply as a first passport
