Documents checklist
What New Zealand citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official New Zealand government information:
Renewing a New Zealand passport from abroad
- Renew online on passports.govt.nz (applicants 16 and over) – only the passport offices in London, Sydney and New Zealand issue passports
- Paper applications are possible but take longer
- Urgent processing (3 working days) is available for an extra fee
- In an emergency, a New Zealand embassy may issue an Emergency Travel Document with restricted validity
Sources: New Zealand Government – renew or replace your adult passport, New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade – passports and visas (checked October 2026). Requirements and fees can change and individual posts may ask for more – confirm the current list with the embassy before your visit.
Travelling from Ireland to New Zealand
Irish citizens do not need a visa for short stays in New Zealand (up to 90 days), but must obtain an electronic travel authorisation online before departure. The Department of Foreign Affairs publishes the current entry rules in its travel advice; check it before booking.
Closing days
The embassy is normally closed on Irish public holidays. On the New Zealand national day (6 February) the office is usually closed or holds a reception.
Emergency assistance
In Ireland, the emergency numbers are 112 and 999. Irish citizens who need help in New Zealand should contact the Irish embassy accredited to the country or the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin on +353 1 408 2000; its travel advice lists the responsible mission.
