Belarusian citizens with an ordinary passport do not need a visa for Nicaragua for stays of up to 90 days, according to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s list of visa-free destinations. The ministry notes that the passport should be valid for at least six months beyond the planned departure and have two blank pages; the information is for guidance only and should be confirmed with the embassy. What can an honorary consul do?
An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Nicaragua and approved by the host country. Expect the honorary consulate to be closed on Belarusian public holidays such as Orthodox Christmas (7 January), Women’s Day (8 March), Radunitsa, Victory Day (9 May), Independence Day (3 July) and October Revolution Day (7 November). On the Nicaraguan national day (15 September) the office is usually closed or holds a reception.
