About the Somali Embassy in Berlin
The embassy represents the Federal Republic of Somalia in Germany and is its only mission in the country. Germany supports Somalia mainly through humanitarian aid, state-building and security programmes. A Somali community of several tens of thousands lives in Germany.
Germany has no embassy in Somalia; the German Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, is responsible.

If you must travel to Somalia
- A regular passport valid for six months (temporary and children’s passports are not accepted)
- A Somali e-visa obtained before travel – and a separate entry permit for Somaliland if you go there
- Arrangements through the organisation you travel with; independent travel is not advisable

Travelling from Germany to Somalia
The German Federal Foreign Office warns against all travel to Somalia. German citizens need a visa, applied for electronically before travel.
- Visas issued by Somali missions or as e-visas may not be recognised at every border crossing.
- “Somaliland” requires its own visa or entry permit; the Somali visa is not enough.
- Foreign currency must be declared; Somali shillings may only be taken in or out up to SOS 200.

Somali citizens need a Schengen visa, which is handled by the German Embassy in Nairobi.

Closing days
The embassy is closed on German public holidays in Berlin and on Somali holidays, including Independence Day on 26 June, Republic Day on 1 July and the Islamic festivals.

There is no German embassy in Somalia. The German Embassy in Nairobi is responsible, but it cannot issue documents at short notice; a replacement passport must be applied for in person in Nairobi.
