Who runs the Sri Lankan Embassy?
According to the Belgian protocol list, Sri Lanka is represented by Ambassador Wakwalle Kankanamge Chandana Weerasena (credentials presented 7 February 2024). Brussels hosts the EU institutions and NATO, so several countries keep separate missions there; this page covers the bilateral embassy to Belgium. Documents checklist
What Sri Lankan citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Sri Lankan government information:
Sri Lankan passport (new or renewal, abroad)
- Apply through the Sri Lankan mission in your country (or the nearest one) on Form K-35A, including the signed client undertaking
- Your current passport and a photocopy of the bio-data page
- Photo with the photo studio acknowledgement
- Original birth certificate and National Identity Card, each with a photocopy; marriage certificate for a married name
- Minors with parents abroad: consent letter and parents’ passport copies certified by the mission
- Urgent travel abroad: the mission can issue a one-way travel document

Belgian citizens need a visa for Sri Lanka (up to 30 days); it can be applied for online. The Belgian Foreign Ministry keeps the entry rules for Belgians in its travel documents database; check it before booking.
Closing days
The embassy is closed on Belgian public holidays and on Sri Lanka’s national day (4 February). Check before visiting in the weeks around Christmas, Easter and in July/August.
