What does the honorary consul in Athens do?
The honorary consul in Athens is a volunteer representative of Uganda, usually a local business or civic figure. Vasiliki Alexandraki holds the post, according to the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its jurisdiction is the whole of Greece. There are no published opening hours, so arrange a meeting first. To arrange a visit, call +30 210 623 3536 and e-mail v.alexandraki@yahoo.com.
The office is located in Attica.
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not publish visa rules for individual countries. It asks Greek citizens travelling outside the EU and the European Economic Area to check with the consular authorities of the country they are visiting before departure – for Uganda, that means this mission. See the ministry’s page on visas for Greek citizens (in Greek).
Which Ugandan office issues passports and visas?
An honorary consul cannot issue passports or visas; these are handled by the Ugandan Embassy in Rome (accredited to Greece).
Note: Uganda has no resident embassy in Athens; its embassy in Rome is accredited to Greece.
Holidays and closures
Like most offices in Greece, the honorary consulate closes on public holidays – including Clean Monday, Orthodox Easter (Good Friday to Easter Monday), the Assumption (15 August) and Christmas. It is usually also closed on Uganda’s national day (9 October). Check before visiting in the weeks around Christmas and Easter.
